Short version: Layn keeps almost everything on your device. The extension doesn't track you, sell data, or run analytics. The website itself uses basic Google Analytics (more below). The few times the extension talks to a server, it's only to check your Pro key or load a site's icon.

What Layn stores

Everything below is saved locally in your browser using Chrome's storage. It stays on your machine and isn't sent to us:

Tab and browsing access

For tab lock to work, Layn needs to see the address of the tab you're on, so it can check whether that site is on your allowed list. This check happens entirely on your device. Layn does not record your browsing history, and it never sends the pages you visit to any server.

When Layn talks to a server

There are only two cases:

1. Activating Pro. When you enter an activation key, Layn sends that key and a randomly generated device ID to our server to confirm it's valid and hasn't passed its device limit. No name, email, or browsing data is sent in this step.

2. Site icons. To show the little icon next to each allowed site, Layn asks Google's public favicon service for that site's icon. This means the domain names on your allowed list (for example, figma.com) are sent to Google to fetch the icon. If you'd rather not, you simply won't see custom icons. The feature isn't required for tab lock to work.

This website

This policy covers the Layn browser extension. The Layn website (layn.pages.dev) uses Google Analytics to understand basic traffic, like which pages people visit and roughly where visitors come from. That is standard website analytics handled by Google, and it is separate from the extension, which runs no analytics. You can read how Google handles this data in Google's privacy policy.

Payments

If you buy Layn Pro, the payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. After a successful payment, an activation key is generated and emailed to the address you gave at checkout.

What Layn does not do

Your data, your control

Because your data lives in your browser, you can clear it any time by removing the extension. Uninstalling Layn deletes everything it stored locally.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will update. Continuing to use Layn after a change means you're okay with it.
